Something sticky and sweet!

Standard

I know, you might think: what is all the fuss about homemade granola!? Why is everybody suddenly baking it instead of buying it? Is the world suddenly crazy?

Well, we tried for you! Happy? Now just shut up and listen!

*drumroll*

Obviously, the number 1 pro is that you can choose whatever the hell you want! For example, this time it’s all about dried fruits and pumpkin pie syrup, and no nuts or chocolate. The only thing you should keep in mind is that you need to use all the main categories of ingredients: fruits, cereals, something sticky and sweet (huh!) and spices!

Actually you can omit fruit, add chocolate, add both… Oh fuck, just do what you want. But know THIS combination is heavenly!

You can also bake them less or more, depending on your tastes. Just don’t think they will be LIKE the one you buy, they are different, better, and probably not at all cheaper.

Pumpkin Pie Syrup Granola

  • Servings: Probably half the size of a boxed one
  • Difficulty: So easy we're almost embarrassed

While cooking…

Listen to: Def Leppard – Pour some sugar on me

Drink: Irish Cream – because milk is not alcoholic and that’s the closest thing we could think of!

Ingredients:

  • 1 + 2/3 cup cereals (100 grams – we had a 5-cereal mix)
  • 4 tsp pumpkin pie syrup – in this case this serves both as additional sticky sugar and as spice
  • 1 cup dried fruits mix (50 grams – we had banana, papaya, coconut and raisins)
  • 2 tsp chia seeds
  • 2 tbs brown sugar

Preparation:

  1. Mix together cereals, fruit, brown sugar and chia seeds
  2. Add the syrup and mix well, until all of it is sticky
  3. Take out a baking tray with baking paper and spread your granola like Nutella on a slice of bread. Oh Yes!
  4. Bake at 300° F (150° C) for around 35 minutes. There is no need to preheat the oven since it’s not a cake… You can bake it less or more depending on if you like them well toasted or not, just be sure the sugar is melted. You can see the nice toasted color in the last picture compared to the bit of cereals left on the table
  5. Let it cool before touching it, go away, don’t smell it or you’ll want to eat it all now!
  6. When it’s at room temperature, break it and store it however you want, a nice jar maybe?

Now for the final touches:

  • Calories: 900 total. Which means if you use them for more than 10 times (and it’s really a BIG serving) it’s less than 90!
  • Fridge: no need
  • Freezable: no need
  • Next day: they keep well for a LOOOOOOONG time
  • Cold: yes
  • Hot: with hot milk
  • Re-heating: uhm, not sure how to reply to this one
